Today’s Knoepfel AG is founded in Walzenhausen by Hugo Knoepfel (at the time a 23-year-old machinist). The company began as a one-man business in his great-grandfather’s former mechanical workshop.
Urs Knoepfel, the founder’s brother, joins the company. The two brothers now manage the company together.
They move from the small workshop to an existing factory site in the village of Walzenhausen. The new property is better suited for the needs.
The one-man business is turned into a joint-stock company.
Expansion of the factory.
Move into the new building in Gaismoos. The factory has been planned down to the last detail, the unique design is representative for the forward-looking company. The production halls are equipped with an a/c, heating and recovery system that ensures a constant air temperature of 20°C in the canteen and changing rooms too. Nor has environmental protection been forgotten: Knoepfel AG operates a self-developed pipe system that repeatedly reconditions the emulsions.
Start of unmanned production thanks to high process know-how.
Modern, newly equipped measurement and test centre goes into operation.
The 3D-coordinate measuring machines allow us to satisfy the highest test requirements and perform large numbers of tests thanks to unmanned measurements. The unmanned measuring equipment consists of a Zeiss Prismo Navigator and a pallet feed system
installed in a clean room with a laminar air flow for a constant temperature of 20 ±0.5°C. This measuring cell can measure up to 10 different, high-precision workpieces with an accuracy of <1 μm and log the data.
Expansion of unmanned production through the commissioning of an integrated production cell for the complete cubic CNC machining of large parts up to 2.5 tons in weight. The production cell is fitted with machining centres with a high-accuracy package and is connected to a Fastems pallet storage system with a capacity of 40 machine pallets
Expansion of production capacity with further CNC machining centres for the cubic and rotary manufacture (incl. new CNC hard turning cell) of high-precision components.
